ERISA and financial planners

Here is a twist...your financial planner may be an ERISA fiduciary? OK, Seitter, what does this mean and what does it mean to me?

Well kids, Uncle Dave has been told a recent advisory opinion by the Department of Labor has interpreted ERISA as applying to any advice given to assets held in qualified individual account plans, such as 401(k) plans and profits sharing arrangements in exchange for a  fee. You know those funky self dealing rules that just came out...well they may apply to your financial planner....

New legal rights you can assert against your planners...is that good or bad? Frankly, it seems like too much regulation to me, but it is good to know you have options out there if something goes wrong with a plan?

Greg Ash keeps me up to date on these types of issues....call him if you have any questions at 913-345-8100.
